History

In the late 60’s a group of hunting buddies got together and started the process of organizing a hunt club.  They were hunting in Lower King and Queen County NE of King and Queen Court House. This group was led by Fielding Tanner, a well respected man of the community that worked at the State Fish Hatchery in Stevensville.  The common goal of the group was to form a club that had most of the leased land connected.  The Tanner Hunt Club (named after Mr. Tanner) formed in 1964 and consisted of a block of hunting land that was close to several acres of land “open to hunting” with permits and owned by Chesapeake Corp. When the Chesapeake Corp. started leasing out their land to clubs, Tanner Hunt Club was able to add some more parcels to the club to form a large block of prime hunting land. Over the years Tanner Hunt Club has strived to maintain this property even though ownership is consistently changing on some parcels.  The club is family orientated, where one membership covers all of one family living under the same roof, including all children attending school up to 22 years of age. We concentrate on safety and on enjoying the tradition of hunting.  We now have approximately 4100 acres of timber land under lease agreements, from cut-over land of various ages to hardwood areas over 75 yrs of age. In the early 80’S the members built a club house (24 x 60), with a kitchen, bath and bunk area that will accommodate about 12 hunters on a first come basis. The club incorporated in the early 90’s. We are about one hours drive from both Richmond and Yorktown. In 2016 Holiday Hunt Club merged with Tanner Hunt Club creating Tanner/Holiday Hunt Club.
